Emojis

2015

This series of paintings explores how the language of Emoji is swiftly taking hold of our everyday communication and has become a part of our daily visual culture. Emojis have replaced emoticons and shorthand text and seeped into emails, social media, billboards, etc. Emojis reflect pop culture and vice versa. I have both referenced an ancient hieroglyphic language and the uncertain future of a language that is constantly evolving. Soon, if not already, these paintings may be an artifact of a foregone virtual language.
